Causeway Farm at Petersfield in Southern Hampshire is a greenfield site of approximately 27 hectares (68 acres), situated within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), hopefully soon to become part of the new South Downs National Park.

In 2002, although the site was not allocated for housing, a syndicate of developers made an unsuccessful application to build 275 houses, with further plans for this to rise to over 500. This housing is not required for Petersfield workers, but will be primarily occupied by commuters.

In 2005 The Inspector's Report following the Local Plan Inquiry substantially follows our recommendations in excluding any major housing development from Petersfield - primarily because of its position within the AONB. Hopefully this will be endorsed by the creation of the South Downs National Park.

April 4th, 2005 - The Inspector's Report is published showing the potential development of only 12 houses in Petersfield, north of Station Road, as a baseline site. Pennsfield has been relegated to a reserve site, with the addition of new reserve sites at Larcombe Road and Broadway Farm - all ahead of Causeway Farm in the rankings. Indeed the Inspector states, in putting all of these Petersfield sites towards the end of the reserve list that he hopes "that they will never be developed".
