2010 and 2002 saw two previous applications for housing at Causeway Farm, which were both unanimously rejected by EHDC. There were no appeals.

In 2005 The Inspector's Report following the Local Plan Inquiry substantially follows our recommendations in excluding any major housing development from Petersfield - primarily because of its position within the then AONB, now the South Downs National Park. Causeway Farm is shown as the last lowest reserve site in Petersfield. Indeed the Inspector states, in putting all of these Petersfield sites towards the end of the reserve list that he hopes "that they will never be developed".

In 2002, although the site was not allocated for housing, a syndicate of developers made an unsuccessful application (enter 37146) to build 275 houses, with further plans for this to rise to over 500.
