Causeway Farm at Petersfield in Southern Hampshire is a greenfield site of approximately 27 hectares (68 acres), situated within the new South Downs National Park.

In February 2010 an application 52418 was received by EHDC to fast track a new planning application by not providing an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). There was much opposition to this from organisations such as Natural England, the South Downs Joint Committee, CPRE, Petersfield Society and Buriton Parish council amongst many others. EHDC decided however that an EIA was required. Click HERE for more information

In 2002, although the site was not allocated for housing, a syndicate of developers made an unsuccessful application to build 275 houses, with further plans for this to rise to over 500. This housing is not required for Petersfield workers, but will be primarily occupied by commuters.

In 2005 The Inspector's Report following the Local Plan Inquiry substantially follows our recommendations in excluding any major housing development from Petersfield - primarily because of its position within the AONB. Hopefully this will be endorsed by the creation of the South Downs National Park. Causeway Farm is shown as the last lowest reserve site in Petersfield. Indeed the Inspector states, in putting all of these Petersfield sites towards the end of the reserve list that he hopes "that they will never be developed".
